THE SOCALCROSS PRESTIGE SERIES RETURNS SEPTEMBER 2009!!
Friday, May 22nd, 2009

The SoCalCross Prestige Series was formed in 2006 by an association of cycling clubs eager to grow the sport and motivated to become the premier cyclocross race series in Southern California and nationwide!  During the past three seasons, the Series has continued to see growth at every race on the calendar, while introducing new races from San Luis Obispo to San Diego.  For the past two seasons, the Series has hosted the first ever So Cal and only California UCI-national cyclocross race.  Our mission to become the GREEN-est sport series in the nation brought solar power to all our events, established the Go Green Racer Jersey Competition... educating participants on ways they can reduce their impact on the planet at events and in their every day life.  Our Best Team Competition brought 160 teams to vye for the title in 2008-09!  Our 'Cross Kids races brought smiles to kids at every race... and their parents too!

Now, entering its fourth season, the 2009-10 SoCalCross Prestige Series has become more than just a bike race. The Series will showcase THE premier cyclocross events across Southern California across the region with the return of our Eco-Bike-Sport Festivals... including kids racing, community fun rides, 5k cross-country runs, and of course premier cyclocross racing… all in one series!

If you want to be a part of the festivities, contact:  dot@SoCalCross.org

WHAT IS CYCLOCROSS?

Cyclocross originated in Europe during the early 1900’s as a way for road cyclists to stay fit and improve bike handling skills during the off season. Races are held in a fixed-time format in natural urban landscapes that utilize a blend of grass, dirt and pavement across the 1-2 mile laps.  In addition to the winding course, racers areforced to dismount and run with their bikes over man-made obstacles such as knee high wooden barriers, steep “run-up” climbs, and deep sandy stretches. Cyclocross favors riders that possess the perfect blend of power on the bicycle and graceful maneuvering of the obstacles. The bicycles used resemble a traditional road bike, but feature a beefed up frame, wider, knobby tires and special brakes designed to perform in the muddiest of conditions. Each venue boasts spectator-friendly action as racers snake through the twisty courses whilst diehard cross fans ring cowbells and cheer on their favorite racers.  DON'T MISS THE FUN!!!
